“Into the Woods” at The Sandler Center

Highlights: Originally a book by James Lapine, “Into The Woods” brings a timeless tale to life with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. With haunting music and lavish costumes, journey with the cast “Into The Woods” as the Baker and his Wife, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack (and the Beanstalk), and Cinderella discover what happens when you get what you wish for – revealing that “happily ever after” isn’t necessarily what you might imagine. The Brothers Grimm inspires this spellbinding story.

3D Films at Nauticus: “Great White Shark” and “Rescue”
Films play Tuesdays thru Sundays. Great White Shark show times: 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM. Rescue show times: 12:30 PM and 3:30 PM.

Great White Shark takes viewers around the world to great white hotspots: the crystal clear waters of Mexico’s legendary Guadalupe Island; newly-discovered shark territory around Stewart Island off the southernmost tip of New Zealand; the bone-chilling waters of South Africa’s “flying” great whites; and finally to the California coast near heavily-populated Los Angeles.
Rescue plunges audiences into the challenging but inspiring work of saving lives in the face of a natural disaster. Behind the scenes, the film follows a Canadian naval commander, two pilots, and a volunteer rescue technician as they train for action.

Third Thursday at the Chrysler Museum of Art

Festivities begin at the Museum at 5:00 PM and start at the Glass Studio at 8:00 PM.

Highlights: At the Museum, the Chrysler offers an evening of wine tasting and live music. Sommeliers from Norfolk’s Mermaid Winery offer samples of some of their favorite vintages while the famous musicians of 504 Supreme fill Huber Court with the sounds of live swing and jazz.
At the Perry Glass Studio, the Studio presents Flock the Optic. This innovative glass performance trio-Liesl Schubel, David King, and Abram Deslauriers-weave patterns from winter bird migrations into a spectacle of light and team glassblowing on our Kaufman and Canoles Hot Shop floor.

8th Annual MyTime Women’s Show

Highlights: Every Thursday night in January, enjoy the Stargazing program. Explore the wonders of the night sky in your backyard. The planetarium will introduce an easy way to become a stargazer using star charts and maps. An introduction to how to use a telescope will also be covered. After the program, you will be invited to view the stars and planets through the planetarium’s giant telescope.
Every Thursday night in February, enjoy The Black Sun program. The sun will turn black in the middle of the day. Unfortunately, this celestial event will not be visible in the Tidewater area. A total solar eclipse will be visible over most of Asia. The planetarium program will explore why eclipses (solar and lunar) occur and why you don’t often see them in your backyard.
