Katherine Shea-Sword takes her role as “legal advocate” to heart, and applies it with impressive competence, grace and compassion. After graduating from Regent University Law School, Katherine began working as an attorney for Virginia Legal Aid Society, where she advocated and litigated on behalf of low- income individuals and families in need, helping them with housing, consumer, and family issues and public benefits.
While at VLAS, she was also the director of the HEAL program, a medical- legal partnership that teamed attorneys with local health care providers to identify patients whose health/medical situation could be improved with proper legal intervention/representation.
At Rutter Mills, Katherine continues to fulfill her heartfelt commitment to those who need her help as a Social Security disability attorney. Every day she fights to get her disabled clients the benefits they deserve and to which they are entitled.
One of the best things about Rutter Mills is that we have the power to change lives every day by helping disabled individuals receive the benefits they are entitled to. This enables them to provide for themselves and their families; get access medical care they might not be able to afford otherwise and begin to rebuild their lives. Being able to make that difference for my clients means everything to me – it’s why I love what I do.
