Joseph M. Young has been practicing law in the Tidewater area for over 30 years. His primary area of practice has been in civil litigation although he served on the Norfolk Circuit Court criminal defense appointed list of attorneys for 18 years. During his career he has tried over 600 jury cases to a verdict in state and federal courts. Mr. Young is licensed to practice in Virginia and is a member of the Virginia State Bar. He has also been admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia and the Virginia Supreme Court. Mr. Young is a member of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, the Norfolk and Portsmouth Bar Association and serves on the Norfolk & Portsmouth Bar Association Professionalism Committee.
Mr. Young was on active duty in the US Navy from 1969 to 1974. He served in the US Naval Reserve for 22 years after finishing his active duty. He was a Naval Officer and retired with the rank of Captain.
Mr. Young is active in community affairs, having served multiple years as President of the Larchmont-Edgewater Civic League. He is currently Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Hurrah Players, Inc., Virginia's leading family theater company. He is also President of the Lambert's Point Golf Course Association.
