Listen to and Be Honest with Your Doctors

Winning or losing your Social Security Disability and/or SSI claim largely depends on the medical records and information provided by your doctors. Therefore, it is very important for you to see a doctor and follow any prescribed medical treatments and advice about your condition.

If you stop taking prescribed medications because of side effects without talking to your doctor, or stop your prescribed treatments without talking to your doctor, you may run the risk of decreasing your chances of winning Social Security Disability and/or SSI benefits.

Therefore, if you are seeking Social Security Disability and/or SSI benefits, please keep in mind the following when seeing your doctor:

Be Honest
Dishonesty will not help you. Do not exaggerate our symptoms or problems. However, do not downplay or underestimate your problems. The more open and honest you are with you doctors the more they may be able to help you, and the more we may be able to help you.

Follow Your Doctor's Advice
If your doctors get honest and accurate information from you, they can treat you better and give better advice.
