A veteran who returned to the states for foot surgery developed complications. The veteran went to the Veterans Affairs Hospital to repair a foot and ankle injury he had sustained during training. A blood vessel was severed during the surgery which caused extreme pain after the surgery. The Veteran was later diagnosed with compartment syndrome after blood began to seep through the staples in his leg. The Veterans case settled for $300,000, with no admission of liability by the Veterans Affairs hospital.
