We Can Help You Following An Intersection Accident

Posted by on in Personal Injury Information Blog

red light cameras

Red light running, especially at intersections, can lead to serious car accidents. Research has found roughly 1,000 people are killed annually due to these crashes. Urban intersections are a particular hot spot for red light running. These accidents are frequent, and typically result in serious injuries. A study in Fairfax, Virginia found drivers were running red lights every twenty minutes. Nationwide, studies have found an overall increase in red light running during rush hour traffic, when drivers are more aggressive and impatient. These accidents are unnecessary, and those negligent should be penalized.

Red light cameras are a sure-fire way for law enforcement to monitor and fine drivers running red lights at busy intersections. Studies have proved the amount of front-into-side impacts, typically found in intersection accidents, decline when these cameras are active. As you may already know, there are quite a few cameras already installed throughout Virginia. New locations in Norfolk and Chesapeake are also now on this list. In Norfolk, a camera is installed at St. Paul's Boulevard / Brambleton Avenue. Another will be installed shortly at the intersection of Little Creek Road / Chesapeake Boulevard. In Chesapeake, red light cameras are now installed at the intersection of Battlefield Boulevard / Atlantic Avenue and on Campostella Road at Edmunds Corner. If your car is caught on camera, you can expect to pay a $50 fee. This violation may affect your wallet, but not your driving record – it is classified as a civil penalty.

Hopes are these cameras will reduce red light running auto accidents. Furthermore, reducing injuries and fatalities related to these accidents.
