Behind every law firm is legacy. For more than 60 years, Rutter Mills has built ours on integrity, reputation, and results. But we didn’t do it alone.

At Rutter Mills, we believe in the power of family, community, and doing things differently. From administrators to human resource professionals to the top attorneys in the state, our team includes some of the best in the industry.

Many of them just so happen to be women.

In honor of Women’s History Month, allow us to introduce you to some of the talented women at our firm. Let’s make history together.

Georgina Montgomery, personal injury lawyer at Rutter Mills

Georgina D. Montgomery

Poised Personal Injury Attorney

As an award-winning personal injury attorney, Georgina works to set precedents that will help families for years to come. Her experience with the nuances of daycare insurance law provides valuable insight into how insurance companies evaluate and defend cases.

In addition to successfully trying cases, Georgina has been named a Best Lawyer for three consecutive years (2024–2026) and was recognized as one of Coastal Virginia Magazine’s Top Lawyers in 2026.

“I came to Rutter Mills because I felt empowered to make decisions not based on what is best for me, or the firm, but what is best for my clients. We put them back in control of their lives. Not every firm can say that.”

— Georgina D. Montgomery

Her empathy and intellect work in tandem, earning her a reputation as a thoughtful and determined advocate. As a personal injury attorney, Georgina often represents injured children and their families. For this reason, she is our go-to attorney for daycare injury cases.

Michelle Moore

Master of Client Services

The first face that greets every visitor is Michelle. For more than 30 years, she’s been a steady presence at our front desk, known for her warm and welcoming energy—much like the fresh cookies she keeps on her desk.

If you hire a Rutter Mills attorney, Michelle will be one of the first people you meet. She will answer your calls, welcome you to the firm, and make sure you feel comfortable from day one. For many clients, she becomes a familiar and reassuring presence during a difficult time.

“It’s a good place to work. Good standards, good quality. People respect you. It’s like home to me; it’s been so long. The Rutters have always been really good to me. It’s like a family.”

— Michelle Moore

We serve clients across Hampton Roads every day, thanks to the invaluable contributions of Michelle. After three decades, she isn’t just the first impression of Rutter Mills. She’s the beating heart of our Norfolk office.

Tedi Chiara

Manager of Pre-Litigation & Human Resources

Tedi is another veteran employee who has been with us for over 30 years. She first joined Rutter Mills as a part-time file clerk, in high school. She went full-time after graduation, taking over the front desk before taking on a secretarial role for Art Rutter, founder of the firm.

Her commitment to integrity and quality earned her not one, but two manager titles over time. As Pre-Litigation Manager, she reviews and assigns cases to pre-litigation attorneys and paralegals. As HR Manager, she conducts hiring interviews and onboarding.

When asked what keeps her here, her answer was simple:

“Loyalty. The Rutters. Obviously, I love it here. I worked with the Rutters from the time I walked in the door, basically. I watched Carter and Austin [Rutter] grow up. It’s a good place to work … and hopefully, one day, retire from!”

— Tedi Chiara

More than her official duties, Tedi acts as a role model to young woman in the firm, as well as a mentor to the next generation of the firm’s legacy: Carter and Austin Rutter.
