As a Hampton Roads native, Tysharah Gardner is proud to be a zealous advocate for her community. Growing up with the influence of her cousin, an honorable Chesapeake Judge, her interest in the judicial system began early on. Tysharah jump-started her career at 13 as a volunteer in Chesapeake’s Juvenile District Relations Court, where she saw first hand the impact a dedicated advocate could make in the lives of others. Ty knew instantly a career in law was in her future.
Throughout high school, Tysharah’s interest never faded, always working diligently towards her goal of a career in law. After graduating from Western Branch Highschool, she took a big leap to Louisiana State University. There, she studied Business Marketing, earning a bachelor’s degree in 2017. From Louisiana, Tysharah came back to the Tidewater area to study law at Regent University. While in college, she delved into her other passion: giving back. Tysharah was inducted into the 1st historically African American sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha, where she helped organize community service events and spread sisterhood. Graduating with her Juris Doctorate in 2020, Tysharah joined Geico as a Staff Litigation Attorney straight out of law school.

Her position involved insurance defense, focusing on analyzing policy specifics and working with insurance adjusters. She recounts being across the courtroom aisle from Rutter Mills, taking note of our winning team. To find her niche, she briefly practiced criminal law as a Prosecutor for the City of Chesapeake, only to realize her passion for personal injury and returned to Geico.
After 3 years of experience, Tysharah was happy to embrace the change and challenges of joining the Rutter Mills Law Firm. Her goal to always beat her own goal highlights her personal high standards. She describes herself as “shark-like:” focused, confident, and ready to attack with her counterpoints. She holds a powerful presence in the courtroom while handling clients with calmness. Outside of being an attorney, wife, and mother to two young children, she is happy to volunteer her spare time with Alpha Kappa Alpha and other organizations. She sees her transition to Rutter Mills as a great opportunity to give back further to Hampton Roads.
Tysharah is eager to work more closely with clients. Her mantra of achieving anything through faith fuels her to deliver fair representation to every case that comes across her desk with empathy and compassion. Besides combing through fine print, she also enjoys reading and travel. She looks forward to growing her career at Rutter Mills. We are glad to have her here.
