A 27-year-old Virginia Beach man was arrested and charged in connection to a pursuit that resulted in a three-vehicle crash where one man was killed and others were hurt. Sunday, January 5th, 2014, at around 10PM, a fatal car accident occurred in Virginia Beach. A police officer saw a Suzuki XL7 SUV commit several traffic violations near the intersection of Lynnhaven Parkway and Princess Anne Road. The officer attempted to stop the man driving the SUV, but the driver continued heading toward the intersection of Lynnhaven Parkway and Pleasant Valley Road. The Suzuki hit a 2005 Chrysler Van; the van then struck a third vehicle. The Suzuki SUV flipped on its roof and caught fire. The driver of the Chrysler, Kelvin Spencer Bracy, 59, of Salem Woods, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Suzuki, James William Dyson Jr., 27, was ejected from the car. Police were able to get two passengers out of the burning vehicle. The three were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No one in the third car was injured. James William Dyson Jr., of Virginia Beach, was charged with felony eluding, second-degree murder, DUI maiming, first-offense DUI, driving on a suspended operator’s license and failure to wear a seat belt. According to Virginia Beach Police Department spokeswoman Tonya Borman, alcohol and speed were factors in the crash. The investigation into the accident is ongoing.
