Rutter Mills today announced a naming rights partnership with one of Virginia Beach’s beloved music venues, now officially The Dome by Rutter Mills, marking a new chapter for a cultural hub with deep roots in the community.
Built on the site of the original Alan B. Shepard Convention Center, affectionately known as The Dome, the venue helped shape Virginia Beach’s cultural identity for decades, hosting legendary performers including Louis Armstrong, Jimi Hendrix, and The Rolling Stones. For generations, it served as a gathering place for live music at the Oceanfront.
Rutter Mills Sows Deep Roots in Virginia Beach
The venue’s long-anticipated return in May 2025 reenergized the Oceanfront, introducing a state-of-the-art, 5,000 capacity venue at the heart of the city’s Atlantic Park redevelopment.
The partnership brings together two names deeply rooted in the Virginia Beach community. When the original Dome opened in 1958, it quickly became a cornerstone of the city’s live music scene. Just one year later, in 1959, Rutter Mills was founded, beginning a decades-long commitment to serving the same community it continues to support today.
